Italy Nation Pack – Coming Soon!

Italy

Hello!

You might be wishing, you might be waiting, but Wargame: Red Dragon – Nation Pack: Italy is really getting awfully close to release. We only need to put the final flourish and finishing touches on our newest Nation Pack DLC.

We have a couple of other, smaller news to share, including the opportunity to feature your chosen name in our new Nation Pack. Keep reading to find out more!

Enlist in the Italian Army

We are very close to the finish line. When we are ready, we’ll announce a release date ASAP. Note that with the Nation Pack’s launch, we’ll also reboot the Ranked leaderboards in Wargame: Red Dragon.

In the meantime, we offer you to “Enlist in the Italian Army.” You might know the drill, but this is where you can submit your chosen name as a squad leader’s name in-game.

  • Only one name per player.
  • Names appropriate to the Nation Pack featured.
  • Surnames only.
  • No insults or wordplay. All names will be checked.
  • Names will be picked randomly for an in-game unit. We can’t assign a name to a specific category. So, even if you want to be a hotshot fighter pilot, your name might be featured as a supply truck instead. The fortunes of war!

Italy – Aircraft Preview

Italy

Hello, hello!

We are back with the final installment of our Wargame: Red Dragon – Nation Pack: Italy previews. In today’s DevBlog, we take to the skies with a look at the DLC’s new helicopters and aircraft.

Let’s go!

Flying High WIth Nation Pack: Italy!

In terms of helicopters, Italy initially relied only on American-made helos. These were mostly civilian variants of military helicopters such as the Kiowa, Huey, and Chinook, with some of them modified by local Italian industries. From the 1980s onwards, a wind of change blew as Italians started developing and deploying their own designs. These proved effective, such as the multi-purpose A.109 and the A.129 attack helicopter..

When it comes to aircraft, the Italian Air Force can be divided into three categories: the F-104, which was used, reused, heavily upgraded, and kept on for almost half of the Cold War’s duration; the jointly developed Italian-British-German Tornado; and older, lighter domestic designs, such as the G.91, MB-399, and A-11 Ghibli. The odd one out – not falling under the above labels – is the AV-8B.

Nation Pack – SADF

Italy

What will the South Africa Nation Pack bring?

  • Close to 90 new SADF units, including 20 brand-new vehicle models, as well as many new variants. All feature Afrikaans and South African-accented English voice-overs.
  • These include the ubiquitous Casspir and Ratel APCs (in numerous variants, from IFV, recon, command, mortar, and even SAM), the Rooikat wheeled tank (including variants and prototypes), Eland (license-produced French AML), Cactus (French Crotale), the only tracked Olifant MBT, many armed versions of locally made SAMIL trucks (Ystervark and Bosvark SPAAG, Valkiri and Bateleur MLRS), to the iconic G6 Renoster self-propelled howitzer.
  • The Air Force includes old Buccaneer, Vampire and Impala as close-air support, and several French Mirage variants and the local Cheetah as fighter and multirole aircraft. Furthermore, you will find the Atlas Carver, the first full South African prototype plane design (which never left the drawing board).
  • Helicopters include the French Alouette III, Puma, Super Frelon and their domestically produced versions and prototypes such as the K-Car, Oryx and XTP-1 Beta. You’ll also be able to deploy South Africa’s very own attack helicopter design, the badass-looking Rooivalk.
  • Infantry will include Bokkop regular riflemen, Parabat paratroopers, SASF special forces, and many more units such as militia, recon, MANPADS, engineers. You will find Portuguese-speaking Angolan UNITA squads, as well as SADF’s own 32 Battalion (the Buffalos) as a veteran light infantry formation.
  • SADF weaponry features imported or locally built R1 and R4 rifles, SS-77 and Mini-SS MG, LRAC and APILAS LAW, but also the more original HK-21, FT5, Inflict and, of course, the iconic Y2 grenade-launcher and NTW-20.
